“MAISON D’ÊTRE” VERBS (conjugated with être in the passé composé)
In the passé composé with être, the past participle always agrees with the subject in gender and number. The following verbs* take être in the passé composé. The drawing that follows lists most of these verbs, organized around the “house of être.”
* When monter, descendre, sortir and passer are followed by a direct object, they take avoir in the passé composé: Sortir:
